Drug Rehab Programs
With adolescent drug abuse rising steadily for the past 15 years, why is it that so many drug rehab programs fail? After all, the purpose of rehabilitation is to fix a problem. If the problem isn't fixed, in many cases it is the program that is lacking in some way, not the person.
One of the biggest reasons why many drug rehab programs fail is that they simply don't offer the kind of complete immersion that is necessary for success. The environment in which young people grow up today is vastly different than that of generations past. Not only are there many more substances to try (and abuse), but there are greater pressures facing kids at younger ages. At the point of addiction, it is extremely difficult to break a young person's habits because he or she continues to be locked in the same type of lifestyle.
There is nothing easy about overcoming a drug and/or alcohol addition--that much is widely known. The difficulty of conquering a mental or physical reliance is on par with the most challenging of all human endeavors. Precisely what strategies succeed in the correct treatment of drug addictions is what tugs at the heart of the psychological community at large.
Regrettably, there seem to be many differing opinions on this all-important matter. Addiction is an unfortunate part of life that does not seem to discriminate. The reasons for it are as varied as the people to whom it afflicts. Just as there are different types of addictions, so too are there different methods of successful treatment. It is important to realize that there is no one, unanimous way to cure someone of a drug or alcohol addiction.
A Long Term Solution
What is needed is a clean break – an isolated and cleansing atmosphere is absolutely necessary if a young adult is to be weaned of a drug and/or alcohol addiction. The pressures that lead to mental weakness and drug relapse should not be found in a rehabilitation environment. Instead, there needs to be a warm and supporting sanctuary where young adults can learn how to enjoy life again, without the interference or pressure of drugs and/or alcohol. A comprehensive program will also teach new life skills to ensure that each participant can succeed in life after treatment.
Only through personalized attention to each individual can an exclusive diagnosis be made. By focusing on young adults, aged 17 to 25, a program can tailor treatment to the specialized needs of adolescent drug users. It is during this pivotal time in life when most people form the foundations of their inner strength, belief systems, and ambitions and goals. It is also during this time when the changes encountered can feel so overwhelming. Unfortunately, many young adults turn to alcohol and/or drugs to cope with their feelings.
Young adults in drug rehab need support that is both nurturing and firm. Such rehab programs should be structured to serve as a complete solution to what has been a pattern of failures and disappointments. Treatment can help young adults successfully realize that they possess the fortitude to change. Given the proper tools and encouragement, it is possible to beat an alcohol and/or drug addition.
